Population and dissenters: My Lord,
Though I be no parochial Minister, I shall answer your Lordships Queries to the best of my abilitys according to my station. I can not say precisely how many families there be in my congregation because several persons who are members of it are married to persons who go to their respective parish churches: all I can say is that the congregation consists of forty souls including young and old. As for dissenters there <are> but few (if any); But there is an Arrian Meeting house as they call it. Mr Hallet who died lately was the Minister of that Congregation; I do not know who hath succeeded him, or whether the congregation hath chosen a Minister as yet.
Public or charity schools: This concerns the Minister of the Parish. He is best able to answer it. But I believe there is no such thing in the Parish.
Alms-house, hospital or charitable endowment:
There is the Priory of St Nicolas to which St Olaves Church belong’d formerly but it is improriated from the time of the abolishing the Monasterys in England. There is no alms house nor Hospital that I know of; and as for lands and tenements left for the repair of the Chuch or other pious uses I know nothing of. The Parish Minister can give a better answer to this question.
Residence upon cure: I have resided in Exeter ever since my coming from London to serve the French Congregation of this place which was in the year 1708. the 29 of May and have resided here ever since.
Curate: I serve my Congregation myself and have done so without interruption since my first coming to the City.
Divine service at other churches: I serve nor do any part of the divine service in any other place besides St Olaves Church which was granted to the French Refugees in ye year 1686 by ye favour of the then Bishop of Exeter Lampelugh who was after the revolution translated to See of York.
Frequency of divine service: Besides a sermon preached every Sunday morning and prayers in the afternoon there some other days on which there are sermons as ye new years day the 30 of January good Friday a preparation sermon about midsummer, another about Michaelmas, one ye 5 of Novr and one upon Chrismass day if it does not happen on a Sunday, and if so a preparatory sermons for the sacrament the Thursday before.
Frequency of communion: I administer four times the holy Sacrament of the Lords supper on Christmas day if on a Sunday or the Sunday following on Easterday on the last Sunday in June, and the last Sunday in September. This is according the custom of the reform’d Churches of France, and I found it so established when I came to this place.
Number of communicants: The number of Communicants of my Congregation may be between thirty five and forty. Generally more than half receive it, and last Easter Sunday to the best of my rembrance there were three and twenty.
Catechising of children: There are hardly any children in my congregation at least {there} their number doth not exceed two.
